Hotel : The Hotel On Rivington This review is several months late but every time I read a glowing review of the Hotel on Rivington I wonder if I stayed in a *different* Hotel on Rivington.
After weeks and weeks of researching NYC hotels for my big birthday I finally decided on Rivington, due in part to the sleek furnishings, the interesting bathrooms, the floor to ceiling windows and the views of Manhattan that go on forever. My sister made the reservations, explained we would be there for my birthday, would like a high floor (knowing of course it's not always guaranteed) but since we were arriving on a Monday there shouldn't be a problem, so she was told.
Upon arrival we were met by a terrific bellman, escorted up to the too-cool-for-school and much too dark and small reception area. We were given a room on the fourth floor. We asked about something on a higher floor and was told the hotel was completely full and they had nothing available, while wishing me a half-hearted happy birthday (which was that day). Reception tried to talk up the fact that the room we were given had an expansive patio area should we want to throw a big party.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was once we got into the room. Yes, the patio area was expansive, in fact it was bigger than the whole suite, but since it was early April, still cold and had rained heavily the night before the last thing I wanted to do was invite people to my expansive patio to sit on wet and puddled furniture.
Also, if you know anything about the Rivington you'll know that many of the bathrooms have floor to ceiling windows in the showers. Not a problem if you're on a higher floor though when you're on the 4th floor it IS a problem. The hotel does offer privacy panels if you're not feeling the whole exhibitionist th Read next opinion
Hotel : HOTEL MAYFLOWER The Mayflower is an excellent find for those on a budget. I paid approx £40.00 a night for my room and it was more than adequate. The room was very big and plenty of storage of space. Shower was powerful and water always hot. Mattress was comfotable and room was very clean. Staff always pleasant and very helpful at check-in.
If you are going to pick fault with it then I guess you could say it is in need of renovation. The buffets in the rooms are very old and do look a little tatty. The danger of renovating though is the price increase it would bring. Also the windows are originals, hence the noise from the street, which can become a disturbance.
Free internet access is also a big PLUS. Always helpful to have this facility, especially when trying to make travel arrangements with other people you are trying to meet up with. Nice touch.
One thing I will say is that the Lillies in reception are far too overpowering and would be nice if they were replaced with something else.
Hotel : Hampton Inn Majestic Chicago Theatre District I stayed here with a friend for a conference in mid-November for about $200/night. It's clean, well-kept, with a breakfast buffet--in short, a great deal for a convenient location right around the corner from the EL Blue Line Monroe stop. The staff was friendly, but not terribly forthcoming about the neighborhood; we asked about a place to eat, and they sent us to an awful pub. BUT--remember, this is the Loop so there's not a lot going on for eating or drinking.
It's within walking distance of Milenium (sp) Park and Michigan Avenue (if you don't mind the cold!)--the Art Institute is across the street. If you're on the Miracle Mile, and looking to save some money, have lunch at the restaurant at Nordstroms (not the cafe, the restaurant)--it's excellent and you can get a large salad or a hot meal for under $10 a meal. Great for families.
One warning: DO NOT USE THE VALET PARKING. There's plenty of city parking (check out the corner of S. Dearborn and Monroe--behind Milenium Park) for $20 overnight, half the price the hotel charges.
Hotel : Agora Saint Germain My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Agora Saint Germain Dec 9 -13 and really appreciated the size of our room, cleanliness and location for a reasonable price. We paid 111 euros/night. Compared to our crappy hole in the wall London accommodations, Hotel Agora was the Ritz. The hotel is right around the corner from a bakery, wine cellar, fromager and Maubert Metro station. We loved the Metro - quick and easy to navigate. The hotel staff is excellent, they all speak English impeccably - wish I knew French as well. We received the best restaurant advice every day from the front desk. There was construction in the atrium when we were there, which was quite noisy one morning, but other than that I have no complaints. Will stay here again!
Hotel : Hotel Auriane Their web site said 'renovated' - not room 31!!!!! Grubby, dirty, I have a long list of things that need putting right, these are just a few. A good steam clean and painting would help. Child size box instead of a wardrobe, so nowhere to hang winter coats, carpet very old and stained, anything wooden was chipped, radiator and bathroom tiles all dirty. Radiator in hall was equally unclean. All so sad as it was a birthday treat for me and my partner spent a lot of money. I was so looking forward to this trip. Thank goodness the Paris buildings were just as beautiful as ever.
Hotel : Du Parc Saint Charles I travel on Business about 200 days a year and this is the first time I thought I should write a review because the website shows nice pics and pricing doesn't match what you actually get....
Yes this hotel has had some refubishing in the bath rooms and breakfast area but the rooms are so small you can touch 3 walls at the same time standing up...!
A few other bad points Doesn't have a lift... so pack lite Breakfast is rolls and coffee... I've had better breakfast in hostels..! Cheap Foam Mattress beds... and Cheap bedding Shower head was blocked up... not cleaned for years... When cancelling your stay the staff think they can charge you for the whole stay..... as if...!
Good points.... well it is next to a Metro station and there is some little cafes nearby... I have stayed in worse hotels... but not many ...
If you want to stay in that area in a better small refurbished hotel stay here "Porte de Versailles Hotel" thats where I am staying now...
I think this hotel is worth 40 euro a night max...
Hotel : Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel Full disclosure: i stayed four nights in one of this hotel's best rooms located on the 15th floor (june 2006).
having said that:
i loved this place! all of the personnel... the front desk folks, the maids, the room service (hey, chris!), the restaurant's waiters, were all =total= professionals and courteous and friendly.
i've had to spend time in many hotels in my career (with plenty of unpleasant experiences), and the albuquerque sunport wyndham hotel easily ranks at the top of my 'favorites' list.
to sum up: the hotel's employees are courteous professionals throughout, an excellently maintained room, and an awesome in-house restaurant (the rojo grill)!. you will definitely enjoy your stay at this hotel.

Hotel : Days Inn Las Vegas At Wild Wild West Gambling Hall This is a MOTEL not a hotel. There is no sidewalk to the strip, so you must call for a cab, or drive. The rooms were recently updated, and it shows. They were very clean, and odor free. Experienced no problemns with the guests or staff. There is security guards on duty, but I only saw them sitting in the same place all the time, never saw them making roiunds.
The casino is very small, mostly just slots, one table of black jack and one table for craps and roulette. The waitresses were nice but slow to ask if you neede a drink, i was there one time for 30 minutes before i was asked.
Attatched restaurant had good for at very affordable prices.
they advertise on there signs that it is "the best" locals casino. And pretty much that apperars to be all that gambles there.
This place is not so cheap, for what you get, but it wasnt as bad as anticipated. Nonethe less, i will NEVER stay there again.
Hotel : Cornell Hotel de France What a treat this was. Sometimes things look better on the internet than they do in Real Life - not so in this case. The real thing is much better than it looks on line.
This property is historic - almost 100 years old. It has an old fashioned elevator and rooms that are up to date, however with the integrity of the building's history intact. Very tastefully and elegantly decorated - all things French. The staff are friendly, but not in-your-face. The breakfast that is included is the best we had in California - and we toured the entire coast. If you have the money, don't miss out on the set menu dining experience in the resaurant - it is outstanding. Have a glass of wine - their house white is the best I've ever had.
The location can't be beat - hop a cable car a couple of doors down. Or walk down the hill to Union Square. We will not stay anywhere else now, I think we really found a gem with this place!
The only downside to this hotel, is the windows/walls are not thich enough from the outside, as was always able to hear traffic. Otherwise, there was no inside noise to complain about.
The room service menu is limited and the prices are pretty cheap compared to many other hotels. I was unable to order room service, as they were currently out of the steak I wanted.(Restaurant was part being renovated along with other down stairs areas).
